Lowell Bergman is a Professor at Berkeley, California, writes for the New York Times and makes television programmes for PBS Frontline

His talk covers the history of whistle-blowing in the US and his own involvement in a number of high-profile stories, including the tobacco industry (a story told in the film The Insider). He begins with a warning: if you want to get into this area of journalism be prepared to get fired, or go to jail.

David Leigh is one of the UK’s leading investigative journalists, assistant editor of the Guardian newspaper, Anthony Sampson Professor of Reporting at City University and winner of the Paul Foot award for investigative journalism 2007.

BAE is the largest arms company in Britain and Europe, and the fourth largest in the world. David Leigh maps the story he told in the Guardian over a period of years. He explains why in investigating this extraordinary story they decided to involve the police, and invite other journalists to take up the story. The Guardian newspaper put the whole story and all its developments on a special website: The BAE Files.
