The cij summer school 2010 is for anyone who needs to upgrade their investigative skills and techniques. Topics covered include:
- private and public finance
- protecting sources
- using the Freedom of Information Act
- Computer Assisted Reporting techniques
- advanced internet research including security and anonymity
- undercover reporting
- libel and privacy law
- data visualisations and statistics
In addition to our regular sessions, this year the school will focus on investigating scientific and pseudo-scientific claims made by the pharmaceuticals, academics, governments and NGOs on issues ranging from health to climate change, from GM crops to nuclear energy. This year the science strand will look at what lies beneath the headlines and getting beyond the spin. It aims to contribute to our understanding of health, climate, and nuclear issues and the way they are currently being reported, to provide publicly available tools in sourcing arguments and counter-arguments, and evaluating the evidence.

Full refunds minus £15 handling fee will be offered for cancellations made a full calendar month before the start of the event.
